I have compiled a bibliography of monographs applicable to Australian birds,
and from it have extracted those titles which provides guides and/or species
checklists to specified locations.

These have been arranged by State by placename by title, and I have then
added to the lists the URLs for those known Web pages which provide regional
species lists.

There are a total of 411 items, as follows:
ACT - 12
NSW - 147
NT - 24
Qld - 40
SA - 27
Tas - 18
Vic - 69
WA - 74

As an example, the 18 items listed for Tasmania are given below:

General :
A guide to the birds of Tasmania (1981)
A handbook of the birds of Tasmania and its dependencies (1910)
A key to the birds of Australia and Tasmania and their geographical
distribution in Australia (1907)
Birds and other vertebrates of south west Tasmania (with emphasis on coastal
environments) (1985)
Birds of Tasmania : an annotated checklist with photographs (1993)
Faunal species lists for catchments in south-west Tasmania (1979)
Field guide to Tasmanian birds (1999)
Tasmanian bird atlas (1979)
Tasmanian birds (1974)
Tasmanian birds : a field guide to the birds inhabiting Tasmania and
adjacent islands, including the sea birds (1958)
Tasmanian seabird island survey : a report to the National Estate Grants
Program (1995)
Tasmania's own birds
The fauna of Tasmania : birds (1995)
Bass Strait :
Birds in Bass Strait (1972)
Flinders Island :
The birds of Flinders Island (1969)
King Island :
The birds of King Island (1971)
Macquarie Island :
The ducks of Macquarie Island (1987)
Maria Island :
Birds of Maria Island : results of a field survey and literature review
(1977)

Sorry for the layout - the original list is in a table, and it loses a bit
of format in the translation.

If anyone would like a copy of any of the State lists, you can contact me
direct (not to list) and I will email it. The quid pro quo is that I would
like information fed back on any guides/checklists or Web sites in existence
that I have missed.

I also have bibliographic detail (author/s, publisher, date, size, ISBN) on
some of the listed titles, but do not want to include this with the lists of
titles as the file size becomes too large. I will look up and provide
details of a *few* titles per request on request.

Regards

Ralph Reid
