Are birders mad?
Yesterday's (Sunday) Age had a picture (p22) of some wally
wading through the surf with a briefcase in one hand and
binoculars in the other.
The news/"Spy" item claimed it to be about Sean Dooley and his
(sadly) penultimate Comedy Festival performance (for this year -
next year is a WHOLE SET OF NEW TICKS !!!).
But it was clearly nonsense. The item said the slide of an OBP
he used in his show was met with some remarks from "Peter
Menkhorst", claiming to be the OBP Recovery Program Coordinator
saying "Oh come on - that's not an Orange-bellied Parrots,
that's an Elegant Parrot." and reported "Sean" as confessing to
Peter that he didn't think anyone would notice.
Incredible ! Sean would never be that modest - I guess he was
just testing his audience and Peter Menkhorst rose to the bait.
