Hi Birders,
Ilana and I have just got back from a good trip to northern NSW and SE
Queensland. The highlights were (in no particular order):
White-eared Monarch at Iluca
Lots of Mangrove Honeyeaters at Yamba
10 Brolga between Iluca and Ballina
Paradise Riflebirds galore (well, about 10) at Big Scrub (Nightcap NP),
Border Ranges and Lamington
Bush-hen along the road from Nimbin into Nightcap NP
Marbled Frogmouth - three heard and one seen (brief flight views) at Lamington
Albert's Lyrebird at Lamington (including some video footage - not great,
but the tail of this male bird shows well)
Lewin's Rail plummeting out of the sky into long grass at Samsonvale
SIPO at Woody Point - with several minutes of video footage
170 species for the trip, and the main dips were Rufous Scrub-bird and
Grass Owl.
Thanks to Andrew Stafford for accompanying us around the Brisbane area, and
in particular showing us the SIPO.
A trip report is being prepared (may take a few days). Anyone interested in
a copy should mail me.
