I know that many of you are aware of the great work
done for charities by the late Sir Harry Secombe, not
only in his beloved Wales, but also all over this
planet. I'm a Goon's fan from way way back as are so
many on this list. In times of steam driven, valve
radio sets perched high in my parents English home,
kitchen. Dashing home from work in the pitch dark at
4:30pm to hope to reach my front door before the show
started. Sir Harry was and is my hero.
His way of looking at life is how I hope to lead my
own life. The laughter he gave me is priceless, as are
the memories of attempting to sail Dartmoor prison
down the English Channel, and tackling his dreaded
fiends with companions Colonel Bloodnock, Maurie Arty,
Eccles, Min and many many more brings so many tears to
my eyes.
So as requested by many on this list, here are my own
short few meagre words for my very own "Welsh wizard"
of laughter.
My dear Sir Harry,
Ewe great little man,
No one can spread laughter,
Just like ewe can,
Raised in Wales,
With all those sheep,
Gently in my heart,
Your memory, I'll always keep,
We intend NOT my friend,
To let you die,
Your singing voice,
That laughing cry,
Crazy Goon antics,
You gave unto me,
I was always expecting,
To see you my Capitan at sea,
But, sadly my friend,
I couldn't get home,
To shake your hand,
Blow away your beer foam,
But I want to say this final word,
A floating English prison?,
Well, that's not quite absurd.
Sleep well and safely my Welsh Prince, as I blow my
nose in some welsh sheep hay.
Never to be forgotten.
