Seas glassy on a 1.5 metre swell, generaly overcast with light NE-NW breeze
made for very pleasant sea conditions.
Streaked Shearwater (1-2) following for extended periods of time allowing
great photographic opportunities with at least six sightings some lasting
over 40 minutes down to 25 metres. First logged at 0950 at 34 31-151 12 in
90 fathoms with water surface temperature 23.3 C.
A mega White-necked Petrel at 1350 at 34 30-151 20 in 400 fathoms gave an
excellent view. It was interesting in the relatively dark leaden grey
upperwing surfaces with conspicuous dark grey thumb mark on the lateral
chest at the base of the leading edge of the upperwing.
Also recorded Great-winged Petrel (20-30), Sooty Shearwater (1),
Short-tailed Shearwater (15), Wedge-tailed Shearwater (300-500),
Flesh-footed Shearwater (50 plus), Hutton's Shearwater (15 plus), Fluttering
Shearwater (2 probables), Pomarine Jaeger (15 plus), Arctic Jaeger (1 dark
morph). No cetaceans. Caught a couple of Striped Tuna and a Dolphin Fish.
A good day
Cheers
