Hi everyone,
It's great to see the first Swift Parrots have returned to the Australian
mainland, and looking forward to catching (figuratively) my first for the year
soon.
This year, for the first time, The Swift Parrot Recovery Team with the
Threatened Bird Network and the Threatened Species Network are going to hold a
Swift Parrot counters workshop. This workshop is aimed at recruiting and
hopefully enthusing new volunteers and also galvanising interest among the
current network (current observers can get some good feedback about how their
work has fit in to the overall picture).
The date: April 28, the location Bendigo, central Victoria (more workshops will
follow in other parts of SE Australia if this one is a success).
Included will be an overview of what the surveys have told us so far and how to
complete the record forms, as well as tree identification, key features of Swift
Parrots (including playing the call for those who haven't come across one).
Then we will visit a site which is only 5km from the office and where there is a
good chance of seeing Swift Parrots.
Mike Weston of the Threatened Bird Network will be handling all enquiries and
registrations for this workshop. email him or
call 03 98822622 if you are interested or just want to know a bit more about it.
