A message relayed from the Mackay birders is that the Black-billed Magpie has now been destroyed at the instigation of AQIS (Australian Quarantine Inspection Service) beacuse of the possibility of introducing disease. Further inquiries seem to indicate that AQIS will be monitoring birding-aus - even if not officially - for information when ship assisted birds turn up! Big brother is watching us all!
