Hi Niven Hilary Thompson and I spotted these waders with 'intermediate' beaks back in the 1980's. My memory isn't infallible but I do remember the conversation he and I had about them at the time, and I'm pretty sure they were Lessers. And yes, I can tell the difference between Lesser Sand Plover and Greater, and so can Hilary. Hilary is away at the moment but when I return I'll ask him to email you any notes he made.
