On Thursday (1 March) a Sacred Kingfisher visited the garden briefly. I live in Garbutt, a semi industrial suburb of Townsville (19*S) adjacent to the airport, approx 1 km in from the coast. I last noted a Sacred K/fisher passing through last September. Marleen Acton also reported a Sacred K/fisher a couple of days ago near her home in Douglas, 9km further inland, close to James Cook University.

Today (3 March) I had a Dollarbird (new bird foir the yard list) doing all kinds of wheelies above the canopy, not hawking as the White-breasted Woodswallows were.  A young Koel is still around calling.

Has the northern migration begun????

Cheers
