Hi there birders,

Over recent weeks we have had small numbers (1-3) of Diamond Firetails visiting our garden in Murray Bridge (80 km SE of Adelaide). This is the first time I have observed them on our 5 acre block. In my experience they are widespread but nowhere abundant in this area.

On one occasion we had the sprinkler going and a puddle of water had formed just below the window where I was enjoying breakfast. It was made even more enjoyable to look down on this beautiful firetail as it had a long bath on a hot morning. Watching stunning birds like this no more than 2 metres away is a great way to start the day!

Happy birding,

Trevor Hampel
