Birdline Victoria Update for the week ending 18/2/01

With the weather remaining warm again this week in Victoria, it is interesting to note the movements of birds as the days go by.  This time last month 12 Baillon's Crakes were recorded at Edithvale, this month only 1 was seen.  However there are still many sightings of Rails and Crakes being reported; always a nice bird to watch.

18 February
Over 100 Little Corellas have been seen on the Mornington-Tyabb Rd., 200-300 metres West of Moorooduc village in horse paddocks (Mel ref 126 H6) be sure to check them early in the morning.  This is among the first Mornington-Peninsula records of this species.  Also at this spot was an unusually high number of Crested Pigeons (11), thanks Mike Carter.

17 February
Both Australian Spotted and Spotless Crakes, as well as Buff-banded Rails were seen from the bird-hide at the Southern Section of the Edithvale Wetlands.

15 February
A Magpie Goose was seen in the Northern section of the Edithvale Wetlands during a survey there along with 2 Wood Sandpipers and only 1 Baillon's Crake,  thanks Mike Carter

5 White-headed Petrel off Port Fairy on the Pelagic Trip, thanks Mike Carter.

10 February
4 Satin Flycatchers, near the Western edge of their range, were seen at the Ralph Illedge Reserve, near Warrnambool, thanks Mike Carter.
