Bill Jolly (12 Feb) reported that Red-tailed Black Cockatoos had turned up at Abberton (Lockyer Valley, SE Qld). The car-park beside the Brisbane-Ipswich highway at Gailes Railway station has several Pine trees (Pinus sp). I stopped there yesterday to renew my supply of B-B-Q fire-lighters (pine cones) and found that over 50% of all fallen cones had been thoroughly 'chewed'. It seems to me that only a large cockatoo would have the strength for this. Any suggestions?
