Blocking Hotmail addresses won't solve the problem; there may be
legitimate Birding-Aus users who use Hotmail, and it's a simple matter
for trolls* to use another free e-mail service e.g. Yahoo., or just
forge their email address since I doubt they read the angry responses
anyway.
If it is possible, I would prefer to see the full headers of messages
sent to Birding-Aus included in the message distributed to subscribers.
(At the moment, the headers only detail the delivery path from
Birding-Aus, not the originator of the message.) This would make it
simple to see where nuisance emails originate from (e.g. One.Net in
Adelaide...) and take the matter up with their ISP.
Failing that, it is possible to configure the mailing list software
to only allow messages posted by members of the list, and to only
allow people to join who have a valid email address (a confirmation
message is sent in response to the original subscription request.)
* troll - term for a person that posts a message for the specific
purpose of causing an angry response.
