Hi all
a long time between postings, which unfortunately means not
much is happening up here (Darwin, NT). A rather unusual Wet
Season, but few unusual birds. Of recent interest:
*up to 5 Little Ringed Plovers at the Darwin Sewage Works,
including one in breeding plumage which is interesting for this time
of year.
*Little Bittern (male & female) at Holmes Jungle, Jan 27. A few
reports of this bird in the Top End but only one that I'm aware of for
Darwin.
*Bush-hen in woodland near the sewage works, Jan 31. A rare bird
up here with few confirmed records, though it may be a regular
visitor. Then again that's unlikely.

Garganey are apparently absent, despite a number of people
looking very intensively for them. Whilst for a few years they
seemed to be reliable, these days it looks as if they only occur in
Darwin on passage (but to where?).

Enjoy your birding
Niven
