Yesterday, while driving to Brisbane I saw a large number of this species,
many hawking at tree top level.

In a 5 kilometre stretch of highway from Ocean Shores north I observed birds
almost continuosly while driving and at times there were 100s in view. It is
hard to estimate the total number in the area, but it would have been in the
1000's. It is certainly the largest concentration of this species I have
ever seen. The time was 1005 and the conditions were very sultry and not
much cloud around. Unfortunately, I had little time to watch this amazing
phenomenon.

The Swifts must have known something about low pressure as last night Casino
was hit by a very bad storm with over 100 houses being unroofed and hail
reported as big as tennis balls. Casino has been declared a disaster area.
