Good work Ian and I totally agree with you.
The alarming thing is that the completion date of the project is December 2003.
It
seems that in just 6 months there have been several amendments to the original
permit which was to take blood samples from 40 birds and to take 2 Great
Bowerbird
specimens, to taking blood samples from 100 Great Bowerbirds and the taking of
42
specimens of mixed species including Golden and Tooth-billed. One wonders what
these people have in mind for the next 2 years and how many more amendments
will be
submitted. Perhaps I am cynical but one cannot help but wonder whether it has
all
been going to a well orchestrated plan right from the beginning!
The Spotted Bowerbird (which is still to be collected from all reports) is one
bird
which would be really copping it from the huge amount of land clearing going on
in
Queensland.
Another thing we should keep in mind is that Dr Day's work is conducted from a
Department of Phycology - not from biology, ornithology, environment or what
ever.
