I have enjoyed this thread. I have been interesting
in bird watching for nearly 40 years. I started in Manchester, England. I
was home from school sick with a cold. Like most kids, having to stay indoors, I
was bored out of my mind. In desperation my mum said I could go into my dads
work room and play with his saw and hammer. The result was a weird but wonderful
bird table. This was erected in out small garden, and filled with food, The
result a Greenfinch! Until that day the only birds I had seen around my
house were Pigeon, House Sparrow and Common Starling. Wow! a green bird. I
remember shouting for my mum to come and look. She too was amazed, we didn't
know what bird it was. The next thing was the purchase of a small bird book
called I-SPY BIRDS. From that day I was hooked. I still have the
I-SPY book, and my first note books from the 1960's. The nice thing about
birding is that I am still learning.
All the best,
