Tracey Austin raised the issue of club membership.
In NT I would suggest NT Naturalists if still extant, otherwise try to contact birders in your region.
Over the years I have gradually relinquished most memberships because of information overload.  I now subscribe only to BA for national contacts and BQ (QOSI) for state contacts. 
The last to be dropped was BOCA, last yearI think I was still subscribing mainly through sentiment, as I joined in 1967. 
I remember dropping WA Bird Notes because it was charging more for interstate members, despite getting less for the subscription !!
