Hi Everyone,
No sign of the reported rarities, Redshank, Asian Dowitcher or American Golden
Plover on the Cairns Esplanade despite thorough searches this week. Birds of
interest were 2 Grey Teal swimming by looking a little lost bobbing up and down
in the ocean, 2 Mangrove Robins at the northern end calling and hopping around
in the edge of the mangroves giving good views, 7 Marsh Sandpipers (good number
for here) and 2 Adult plus 1 Juvenile Nankeen Night Heron roosting in trees
diagonally opposite the playground on the corner of Minnie Street. Today (11th
Nov) Lesser (50+) and Greater Sandplovers (8+) turned up with a few Grey-tailed
Tattlers - numbers of Great Knots and Sharp-tailed Sandpipers have declined over
the last couple of days.
Good numbers of birdos passing through this last week, several groups plus
individuals from Australia, America, UK, Sweden, Finland, Germany and 3 who were
Spanish speaking. One day alone saw 46 birdos on the Esplanade with a forest of
tripods and scopes!
