Dear Birding-Aussers
On Monday Oct.30th at 1.45 p.m. at Pakenham S.F.,approx. 50 Klms. S.E. of Melbourne,I was pleasantly surprised when a flock of about 50 Glossy Ibis appeared in a line from the west. For a moment they looked like they were going to land but carried on a short distance and then,in a loose flock caught a thermal, and rising ,gradually moved off to the north. It was a spectacular sight as at one stage they all did a steep dive together,to catch another thermal. As this is an uncommon bird in southern Vic.,especially in such a large number, I was wondering if they had been seen elsewhere over the weekend (Weeribee, Carrum ,Edithvale etc.)?
Thanks ,Graham.

P.S. I have always found Graham Pizzeys "extra" discriptions in his old book to be spot on.For example he describes them as similar to a flock of Little Black Cormarants, which was my first reaction when they came into view, before I saw the long bills.
