I haven't had a chance to examine the effects of MP3-encoding on bird calls, but today there was an article posted on Slashdot.org about a detailed analysis of MP3 encoders. The tests were carried out against a number of popular programs at different bit rates using "a series of brutal test tones"; while not bird calls, the results are probably still applicable. You can read the results on the following web page: http://www.airwindows.com/encoders/index.html -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Paul Taylor Veni, vidi, tici - I came, I saw, I ticked.
