A Wee Poem for
Birding-Aus
On the net there's a chatline
The Birding-Aus mainline
Where all Aus-Birders gather
And get into a lather
About what's been ticked
And what has been banded
And what has been twitched
And who has been branded
It's a fine resource
Where we call keep in touch
And have our two bob's
About what's hot this month
Of course on a chatline
There's both good and appalling
Seems for each measured posting
There's a "Night Parrot" trawling!
Some posts are inane
Do we turn a blind eye?
Since we're all birding people
Should we live and let die?
After all, we're all different
And different people will argue
It's sure tough in the clinches
So we roll with the punches.
But while we don't shy away
From a robust debate
Most of us draw the line
Before spite and hate
(Now I hasten to add
I'm no better than you
I can most often take it
'Cause I dish it out too!)
But take it as read
That some of what's said
Fair gets up my dander
(It borders on slander).
And while I'm not here to say
We should all get along
For different people will differ
About what's right and wrong
When discussion decends
Into outright abuse
All of our feathered friends
Cry as one: "What's the use?
"We thought that these people
Shared our interests at heart
Yet we might be defeated
Before we even start!"
So my friends, may I plead
When it's all too much bother,
When you feel the heat rising,
Up and under your collar,
When you feel yourself jerk,
When you feel yourself twitch,
When you feel yourself spasm,
And you must scratch that itch,
Move away from your keyboard,
And get yourself moving!
And remind your good selves
That you'd rather be birding.
All
the best everyone, AS ;-)
