On Rotamah Island, Blackbirds and Bassian Thrushes occur together in identical habitats. Both are moderately common in the Monotoca elliptica heath scrub which covers much of the island. This habitat is mostly regrowth during the last 30 years but does not have any notable weeds or other disturbance. This is probably an unusually dry habitat for Bassians and an unusually natural habitat for Blackbirds. Whether the Blackbirds are displacing the thrushes is difficult to tell, it may be the other way as Blackbird numbers appear to have decreased here over the last ten years.
