Hi all
Sadly, I'm only passing on this info 2nd hand. Nigel Milius is our original
source - he's enjoying a few months on Macquarie Island. I'm in Sydney
surviving the olympics (I think).
Cheers,
Russell
PS I've always wanted to report things like Snow Petrel, etc. Guess this is it.

FORWARDED MESSAGE
------------------
15/5/00 WELCOME SWALLOW.
One at 8.30am close to the base. Not flying strongly (although this could have
been a false impression due to the stong winds). Not seen subsequently.
4-5/6/00 SNOW PETREL.
One probably flew into radio wires around the base on the first date, at any
rate it was picked up injured, taken into captivity, and unfortunatley died the
following day. Various dates.
RUDDY TURNSTONE
Seen by myself on 15 and 23/7/00. Two together at Unity Point, a few km south
of base on the west coast. Had been seen a few times previously, certainly as
far back as May and possibly as far back as the 99/00 summer. Seen subsequently
on 9/8/00, searched for but not seen on 7/9/00.
21/8/00 ANTARCTIC PETREL
One close to and over land on North Head. Seen three times in flight between
11am and 12.30pm.
7/9/00 SPUR-WINGED PLOVER Flock of four overhaed at the base on 7/9, two on
beach close to base c.8.30am on 9/9 and four again taking off from same beach,
8.30am 12/9/00. Presumably all birds were from the same group of four
individuals.
