An early Channel-billed Cuckoo for us too yesterday (9th September) on Saturday afternoon, near Grandchester in the Lockyer Valley, southern Queensland.

We look forward to our unsuspecting human Summer Visitors being woken by the raucous sounds of courting Channel-bills flying over and around the house for the next several months!

Subject: [BIRDING-AUS] Channel-billed Cuckoo

Hi All,

Spring has arrived at Hazelbrook in the Blue Mountains. This morning (Sunday) I heard the first channel-billed cuckoo of the season. This is a little earlier than usual - last year it arrived on the 19th Sept.

This afternoon while gardening, I watched a group of small birds, mostly brown & striated thornbills mobbing a shining bronze-cuckoo.

Jill
