Hi Everyone,
Just back from 3 weeks in western Qld and Lake Eyre - but that is
another story, trip report will happen when time permits.
The southern end of Cairns Esplanade has been filled in with sand in
preparation for the swimming lagoon - the sand has now got grass growing
on it and will be allowed to settle before anymore works begin. The
filling occupies one block from Fogarty Park to Shields Street. The
Silver Gulls, Caspian Terns and Gull-billed Terns have taken up
residence on the grassed top and the small sloping beach area that has
been formed. Numbers of migratory waders have returned and are listed
below in a count conducted today. The waders appear not to have not been
affected by the works carried out so far, as they are using the same
areas further north to feed on that they have used for many previous
years.
