Common Sandpiper in Melbourne

Today, by Port Phillip Bay beneath the Beaumaris Monocline - its
usual local haunt, I saw a Common Sandpiper. Presumably this
was a returning migrant but the date (24th August) is the
earliest I know for Victoria and I haven't heard of them
over-wintering (although Tony Russell sees them in winter at the
Penrice saltfields in Adelaide).
Did anyone check if Ian Temby's record of one in Yarraville on
5th May this year, repored by Hugo Phillips, was the latest
Victorian warmer months date for the species ?
