Hello everyone,

We returned last night from a jaunt which took us from SEQld, out
west to Cunnamulla, south to Broken Hill, and then home via Nyngan
and Goondiwindi. I have a few trip reports to write up, but wanted to
let you all know what a marvellous place we stayed at out of
Cunnamulla. David Geering first wrote of this property about a month
ago, and David, I thank you for sharing it with us. We extended our
three nights to five, because we just didn't want to leave. We have
birded in SWQld many times, and this was the first time we had got
out the public arena, and onto private property. It made such a
difference. We saw 99 species during our 5 days without leaving the
boundaries, and there would be plenty of other species which would
certainly occur on the property. I shall report in more detail when I
get a break.

The hosts, Julie and Ian McLaren, are lovely people. Ian has had a
lifelong interest in birds and reptiles, and knows them by names we
have never heard of. The self-contained cottage is simple,
comfortable and private. Julie and Ian leave you to be as private as
you wish, or offer their company willingly when you run into them. A
4WD is not a necessity, but it is a decided advantage, and we were
glad we took ours. In fact it rained on our last night there, and we
needed 4WD to get out of the property, along an 8km gravel road,
which had turned to grease.

"Bowra" is situated about 16km from Cunnamulla - north then west. The
phone number is (07)46551238. The email is but
be warned that Julie is planning to change her ISP shortly. More
later.

Cheers,

Jill
