I saw the Morecombe guide yesterday, and must say I was less than
impressed with it. The illustrations were of particular concern... they
seem scratchy, and patchy re. colour accuracy. Each plate is far too
cluttered with information too. I like a certain bird to stand proudly
on a page, not have every feather surrounded by little words/points. The
book does have an interesting Cocos, Keeling and Norfolk Islands bird
section, which other guides can't boast, but this doesn't save it from
being rather unexciting a volume. Perhaps I'm being too critical with
all this, but at $45 or $40(including GST) I will not be purchasing
one... yet.
I also saw Pizzey's new travel book, which seemed quite good, with some
interesting stories, but it wasn't particularly lyrical or inspiring,
from the small bits I read. And it wasn't all birding stuff either, not
that that's a real problem.
I'm not saying I can do better. I'm just saying...
Peace and a bit of grizzling,
LGJ.
