Greetings, David Brown from Grafton and I have just spent the afternoon observing the Northern Pintail at Cowens Wetlands, Grafton. For those who are intending to head this way in the next few days the bird was still present at 4pm on the 8.8.00. For the last two days it has been sitting on top of a patch of Water Hyacinth about 60m from the hide, nearly directly in front. At times it lays pretty low and is very difficult to see. Once seen it is very obvious and easily kept track of. Today it was moving around quite a bit and allowing good views. The patch of Hyacinth is the second patch from the hide. To get there, follow the Glen Innes rd for 5km until you cross Cowens Creek and park directly on the other side of the creek. Walk through a gate on your left and follow the track around to the hide, about 200m. Please assist the local ponds management committee by signing the visitors book. We were there for two hours today and ten people came to look at it in that time.
Regards Richard Baxter Newcastle
