Barely a whimper from the assembled masses in response to my last
Twitchathon e-mail! I'm still crusading for greater involvement in this
year's Twitchathon though - 28-29 October 2000.
This event has little to do with 'mindless ticking', and quite a lot to
do with having fun, getting some great birding into 24 hours, enjoying
some friendly rivalry, and raising money for bird research and
conservation projects.
There is an Open race for those who wish to quarter the state in search
of birds, or a Champagne race for those who desire a more dignified and
less frenzied weekend. Either way there's quite a bit of enjoyment to
be had in planning for and running a team in the Twitchathon.
The 'Victorian Twitchathon 2000' web page is now up at
http://www.bluep.com/~oco/vthon2000.html
Though not yet complete, it has:
* most of the paperwork you'll need to be involved (registration &
sponsor forms coming soon)
* hints on how to put together a team and run a successful race
* Victorian bird list
* rules for the Open and Champagne divisions
* contact details for organisers in most other states & territories
Visit the site - BE IN THE RACE - raise money for bird research and
conservation.
