Gooday birding-aussers,
Some dreadful news from the Collinsville area again.
Users may recall that last year we had a bird kill problem at Collinsville. For those interested it can be followed up through the archives by searching "Collinsville bird deaths".

Dead bird problem returns.

Last year many birds died around the Collinsville district, with many found at the local dump. Local resident Carol Cosentino was alerted to a repeat of the problem this year, after more than 40 dead birds were discovered at the Collinsville Refuse Tip last Sunday. These birds were not just one breed, with magpies, pee-wees and even an Ibis found deceased. Mrs Consentino collected a number of ill birds which hopefully will be nursed back to good health. Anyone finding sick birds can contact Carol on 4785 5497 as she is prepared to care for them. Some of the dead birds have been collected and will be sent away for an autopsy through the appropriate authorities. Pictured at right are birds found deceased at the refuse tip on Monday morning. End.

From enquiries it seems from reports that the birds had been collected and
then dumped at the tip, they did not die at the tip site.

Will provide further updates as news filters through the Bowen Shire Council have been very cooperative. Lets hope the Qld. Environmental Protection Agency can gain a conviction this year. Bowen wildlife carers have offered their services to Carol Consentino by taking in birds. Great to see the good side to us humans come to the for.

Jon Wren
