Dear All,
Thanks to all who provided information on birding in Caperte valley. We
found our way there but I don't know how well we would have found the
birds without the help of David Geering who showed us the Regent
Honeyeaters and taught us to recognize their delightful call. Being
there at the same time as David was the most wonderful piece of luck.
Now I can vouch for the occurrence of RHEs at the Port Macquarie Road
stretch of the Glen Alice - Rylstone road as in David's recent posting.
There were many other species beside the RHE and I shall provide a list
for anyone who request it.
This is a wonderful news-group which has built a whole community. I can
not imagine any other circumstances where one could be stopped by the
headlight 'flash' of a passing motorist on a remote country road, only
to be greeted by name by an otherwise perfect stranger (David G.) and be
so generously 'shown the birds'.
We were very impressed with the regeneration planting program in support
of the RHE (and Swift Parrot) and only wish that it was somewhat less
than a 12(-ish) hour drive to get there to help. I would urge all who
can make it to support David in his forthcoming planting weekend and I
can assure you, you will see lots of very, very nice birds.
Regards,
Ros Laundon.
