This message is for Sydney birders or visitors to Sydney. There is a pair
of Tawny frogmouths at eye-level in Cremorne, a Sydney suburb. They were
found by Wendy Bannister who sees these and another mixed colour pair on her
regular walks around Cremorne. I am putting this on Birding-aus so others
can see how beautiful is the red phase.

To see the birds go to Reginald street, Cremorne. Reginald Street becomes
Oswald Street at the bottom of a hill. The birds are here. There is a
timber railing beside the footpath on the southern side of the road. Stand
in the middle of the railing, there is a large Coral Tree (the one with the
red flowers) directly in front of you. At about 5 metres below the very top
of the tree the is a large dark blob in the tree. With your bins you can
see this is a wasp nest. Look to the right about 1 metre and you will see
the Frogmouths. If you take a telescope you can truly see the beauty of the
birds.

At no time did they adopt a danger aware vertical head pose. It is nice to
see this bird in a normal shape in daylight. Wendy said the rufous bird was
the female.

Good birding everyone
