Sale Field Nats. member brought to the meeting last night, freshwater mussel shells, found at the Maffra Golf Course, with holes punched in them by Kookaburras to extract the meat. Apparently quite a deposit of them beneath a tree. Many were completely opened, some were still connected with a hole about 30 - 40 mm in one side where the contents had been taken out. The creek is at a low level, allowing the birds to get at the shellfish. Has anyone encountered this before? Duncan Fraser.
