This is Mike Carter's report for the trip 2/07/00 which left Port Fairy ( not Portland ).
 
Aboard :-
Mike Carter (leader), Rob & Gail Berry, Neil Macumber, Phil Maher, Dave Webb, Steve Seymour, Laurie O'Connor, Tom Fletcher, Harry (the dude) Zwacke, Kelvin & Kim Jakes.
 
Weather :-
Sunny periods, partly cloudy with drizzle showers, cool wind 0 - 12 knots NE. Sea slight on low ( to 2 metre ) swell in a.m. Small chop in p.m.
 
The good ship Michael J lV left at 0745, docked at 1720. Headed out SSW ( 203 degrees ) at 13.3 knots. Occasional pauses inshore. Burlied in 73 fathoms for 20 minutes before crossing shelf break at 1040. Burlied over 260 fathom canyon. At 1130, 30nm from Port Fairy joined a feeding flock of birds and seals in 150 fathoms until 1300. Moved south to 300 fathoms before heading towards home at 1345. Visited Lady Julia Percy Is on return.
