If you go to Illuka on the other side of the estuary, you have a good chance
for White-eared Monarch, Barred Cuckoo-shrike, Varied Triller, Little
(Rufous) Shrike-thrush, Pale-yellow Robins, Regent Bowerbirds and Noisy
Pitta if you like to see those, in the Illuka Nature Reserve beside the
northern entrance of the river. This is an area of littoral rainforest. I
have never been there myself but know of a few birdo's who have and have
seen these birds, so this is solely second knowledge. This is an area of
littoral rainforest. You may also see Mangrove Honeyeaters in the mangroves,
Beach Stone-curlews and perhaps maybe Collared (Mangrove) Kingfisher may
also be present.
To the south, in the heaths/swampy heaths, you should try for Ground
Parrots, King Quail, Red-backed Button-quail and Eastern Grass Owl as there
is ideal habitat for them.
