Hi Birding-Ausers
A short message from the University of Samarqand in Uzbekistan!
I've been mostly looking at the Silk Road architecture so far, so not a lot
of birding. The common town birds are turtle-doves (Laughing, Collared,
Oriental),
swifts (Alpine, Common), sparrows (Tree, House), Common Mynahs, Rooks, Jackdaws,
etc. Gems like Eurasian Hoopoe, Pied Bushchat, White (Black-headed) Wagtail,
Black-billed Magpie, Turkestan Tit, etc. are less common. Other trip highlights
(if Hoopoe can be topped) include Imperial Eagle, White-tailed Sea-Eagle,
White-tailed
Lapwing, sandgrouse (Pin-tailed & Black-bellied), Wallcreeper, Persian Nuthatch,
Red-headed Bunting, etc....
More later.
I hope Australia is still there. Lot's of people here know it for kangaroos
& the Olympics, but little else!
