Hello birding-aussers
Botany Bay National Park, south of Sydney, is again home to fair numbers of
Musk Lorikeets, feeding in the Swamp Mahogany that is just coming into
flower. Also lots of Rainbow Lorikeets and Red Wattlebirds. Didn't see/hear
Swift Parrots although a group of about 5 lorikeets flew through very fast
and MIGHT have been swifties. It was very noisy with wind and the Musks and
other birds. Good to keep an eye on the place from now on.
Also out at Solanders Point, as reported by Edwin Vella at Maroubra, many
Fairy Prions and others very close into shore, Fluttering SWs, Black-browed
Albatross and lots of adult Gannets diving for fish. It was extremely windy
and even hunkered down behind a rock shelter, was still difficult using a
scope. Only Crested Terns during the short time we were there. 3 Humpback
whales reported by the whale watchers watching from the car park.
