Hi all.
Did a couple of hours sea-watching from Nora Head
on the Central Coast of NSW yesterday. Realised for the hundredth time
that I need to get a decent scope but I managed to ID some
seabirds.
Lots of Prions feeding, some of which came in close
to give me good views. Have no experience with these birds but from the
pale head and face pattern and prominent black on the tail I'm fairly sure they
were Fairy Prions. None that I got a look at seemed to be different,
although I thought there was some variation in size. I don't know if FP
show much size variation.
There were some Albatross out too far to ID except
for 4 which came in closer. These were 2 each of Black-browed and
Yellow-nosed.
Got a really good look at a Fluttering
Shearwater. There were some going past. I'm pretty sure there were a
few Hutton's in amongst them.
Half a dozen White-fronted Terns as well.
Some beautiful adult Gannets and a few Immatures were a nice sight.
A good start to my winter sea-watching.
Can't wait till I get a new scope and can see
these birds better.
