Gerry Richards, David Stewart and I spent three weeks birding in western
China in 7-28.5.00.
Spent basically one week in Wolong Nature Reserve, one week in the eastern
Tibetan plateau near Ruoergai and one week in Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve.
Recorded 242 species.

Highlights-Wolong: Snow Partridge, Tibetan Snowcock, Blood Pheasant,
Temminck's Tragopan, White Eared Pheasant, Golden Pheasant, Wood Snipe,
Firethroat, Grandala, Bar-winged Wren-Babbler. Brief view of departing Red
Panda at Wuyipeng.

Tibetan Plateau: Black-necked Crane, Tibetan Ground Jay, Chinese Grey
Shrike, Tibetan Partridge, White-tailed Rubythroat, Black-winged Snowfinch.
Great birding at Daba Lake.

Jiuzhaigou : Verreaux's Monal Partridge, Blue Eared Pheasant, Severtzov's
Grouse, Pere David's Owl, Black and Three-toed Woodpeckers, Sichuan Jay,
Long-tailed Thrush, Chinese Thrush, Rufous-headed Robin, Sukatschev's
Laughingthrush, Three-banded Rosefinch and a very jammy Gould's Shortwing.

The people were very friendly, the food was a highlight and the scenery out
of this world. If any one is going to this part of China and needs some
birding advice give me a mailnote. A completed report should be available in
a month. David if you are reading this the wheatear to my understanding must
be Isabelline.

Cheers Dion
