You are probably referring to the Kagu, _Rhynochetos jubatus_, a New
Caledonian endemic, and also the sole member of its family, the
Rhynochetidae, which is apparently closely related to the South American
Seriemas. It is a curious, flightless, light grey bird with red bill and
feet, about night-heron sized and shaped, which lives in the mountain
forests of the island and is highly endangered.

Hi All! Could anyone give me any information on the name KAHU. My brother
came across this name in a crossword and found a definition for it in a
crossword dictionary as "an Australasian Hawk". We cannot find any reference
to this bird in other Australian field guides. I am wondering what area the
term Australasia is covering? Cheers Julie Moore
