Hi all,
As many of you will be aware, the Swift Parrot-Regent Honeyeater survey is on
this weekend. Good luck to everyone participating. It looks as if the weather
will be reasonable, if not exactly sensational along the east coast and in
Victoria.
For those from overseas or new to the list:
Hundreds of observers head out on this weekend and again on August 5 and 6 to
try and track these birds, which range widely across an area of south-eastern
Australia that is larger than many european countries. The birds are nectar
feeders, and their movements follow areas of profuse eucalypt flowering. The
distribution of both species across the area covered by the observers varies
greatly each year. Generally a few hundred Swift Parrots are found, and a few
dozen Regent Honeyeaters.
Contact myself (03 5430 4357) or David Geering (Regent Honeyeaters) 02 6883 5335
for more info. Current observers feel free to make any last-minute queries, I
generally receive plenty of requests on the last day or two before the survey!
