Hi all,
Here's the trip report for the Portland Pelagic that sailed on Sunday 7th
May 2000.
Regards
Rohan
HIGHLIGHTS: A good diversity of birds including close but brief views of
Sooty Albatross and Northern Royal Albatross and a very high count (for
Portland) of Wandering Albatross made for an interesting day. Giant Petrels
again provided some opportunity for debate, with the identity of one bird
remaining questionable (subsequent examination of photos taken on the day
suggest a Northern GP).
CONDITIONS: Departed 0730 reaching the shelf break at 1020 Berleyed at a
number of locations and intercepted two trawlers before turning about at
1325. Docked at 1545. Slight to moderate sea on moderate swell easing
somewhat in the pm. Wind: fresh to 10 knots North-westerly. Cloud cover
patchy with occasional light showers breaking up to be mostly sunny in the
afternoon.
