Hi Bill, Saw your robin request and thought the following might help. Red-capped robins are common around Charleville with some females having a slight wash to the breast, although I would call it more rusty-brown then red but I guess that is subjective. The thing that I would be looking out for would be the red wash on the forehead of the female red-capped which is quite noticeable. The few female scarlets that I have seen have had a whitish forehead cap. What was the colour of the cap of the bird you saw and have you considered a young male red-cap?
