Had a quick look around the Hawkesbury this
afternoon.
At the Richmond Turf Farms had an
excellent view of an adult Spotted Harrier (probably
a regular spot for them) along Cornwallis Rd. The bird was typically sailing
just over the grassland on both sides of the road looking for prey and at one
time, just only metres above my head (great). I wish I had my
camera.
Also around the turf farms, were a flock of about
80 Plumed Whistling-ducks (among many other common
waterbirds), atleast 500 noisy Little Corellas and
some Chestnut-breasted Mannakins. The former two were
feeding on the ground on the residual bits of recently finished crops
enticing flocks of many other birds.
At Pitt Town were 16 Pink-eared
Ducks, 2 pairs of Australasian Shovelers, an
Australian Hobby and a pair of Restless
Flycatchers.
Not bad for a few hours birding.
