Dear birders,

My mouth runneth over.

In my posting regarding the Southport pelagic of 11/3,
I included a description of a Herald Petrel along with
my general account of the days' highlights.

While we in no way retract our claim, my description
was pre-emptive and premature. Herald Petrels can be
difficult to identify in the field and I do not wish
to endanger this sighting's chances of acceptance by
my comments.

Therefore I must, as a matter of procedure, formally
retract my description for the moment. It represents
only my immediate, off-the-cuff observations and
should NOT in any way be regarded as a formal account.

That account will be submitted to BARC in due course
and will comprise ALL notes of observations made
independently by those on board.

I hope that makes things clear.

AS
