What no takers on my Tern Question?

Trevor Hampel <> wrote:

Dear John,

Your story about the little terns reminds me of
another story which might have some bearing on your
question relating to family orientation. Someone once
saw a lonely little tern on the beach. On closer
observation, it was seen to be crying, sobbing its
poor little eyes out. The observer was able to
approach to within a
metre or so. What seems to be the matter, little tern?
asked the birder. Between pathetic little sobbings the
tern explained that it was an orphaned tern. It gave a
huge sigh before stating:

Surely one good tern deserves a mother!

Happy birding.
