Hi folks
Just back from 10 days in northern Victoria at the 3 study sites for my
project - Ovens Floodplain, Barmah Forest and Gunbower Island.
Some details to follow in a day or two, but the noteworthy observation
from this round is of a pair of KING QUAIL in Poa tussock-grassland and
wetland-edge herbfield under River Red Gums on a backwater of the Ovens
River near Bundalong (between Yarrawonga and Rutherglen), NE Victoria.
I saw one bird on 25 February, 2000, and a pair on 27/2. These beasts
are rarely seen in Victoria .......... quite exciting!
Cheers -- Lawrie
