Regarding the duration of the slow toc toc toc call that emanates from
Lewins Honeyeaters sometimes.

It's a regular feature of the soundscape here, and often continues for a few
minutes, though never yet for the hour plus recently mentioned - although it
has got that quality of monotony about it that could give the feeling that
it's been going on for hours.

Quite a few visitors who haven't lived close by Lewins Honeyeaters, but are
otherwise familiar with them, point out the call wondering what it might be.

As to Australian bird calls in foreign movies - the soundtrack of the
original Cape Fear (Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck), highlighted the exotic
nature of the Florida waterways with loudly calling Laughing Kookaburras,
fortuitously providing an amusing tension breaker for me just as I was
getting nervous!
